Thankfulness (for sewing gifts)

So much good luck coming my way lately, I have to share and let people know how they can get some of their own!
Big box from Michael Miller Fabrics' blog, Making it fun...
1 yard cuts of all the entire Heaven & Helsinki collection by Patty Young, all colorways!
I can't wait to work with this, it looks like so much fun! I am thinking some skirts and shorts for my son and my niece. And a quilt. And maybe a tablecloth and napkins? I have a lot to work with here! Amazingly generous, thanks so much to Patty Young and to Michael Miller Fabrics!
Next up, a fat quarter bundle of all the new solids from Bella Solids, from Shruti at 13 Woodhouse Road, for the 2012 Bella Parade.
A Coats and Clark prize pack from Rachelle at The Tip Junkie (I used the yellow spool for Owen's Airplane quilt)
A stack of rainbow solids from Michael Miller Fabrics' Cotton Couture line from Bloomerie Fabrics
And finally, from a lovely evening at Modern Domestic with Denyse Schmidt- a Hope Valley FQ stack from Bolt, a lovely Aurifil spool in orange, a notebook, and a Modern Domestic sewing time punchcard!

So much thanks to give out! So much good karma and generosity in this virtual world- and the real one!

WIP Wednesday- airplane quilt finished!

Works in progress- only two major quilt projects in the works, otherwise it is all just trying to find a part-time job and get my son ready to start preschool!
An embroidered label (yes, however poorly done!) and dedicated to my soon-to-be-born nephew
Front view with new yellow binding
Detail of the name in the airplane's trail
Scrappy back

Quilt stats:
Named Owen's Airplane
40.5" x 42.5"
Pattern inspiration from Sarah Jane and Amy Smart's quilt for Quilt Market
Fabric is DS Quilts Collection from Joann's, some solid blue and white and green print from my stash
Quilted in straight lines with King Tut variegated thread

Now that it is finished it is off to my sister in law to give to her at her son's birth. So excited about a new nephew and about finishing this special gift for him. I am proud of this piece.
And now I can start quilting my son's quilt! I have been putting it off because I want to quilt it at Modern Domestic on their gorgeously smooth Berninas, but that will take a day or two up north.
Anu suggestions? I was just thinking about following the lines of the hexies, but slightly off, so I am not stitching in the ditch. It seems busy enough without busy quilting.

New to dos:
Make a pillowcase with label for my son's preschool nap mat

Woo hoo!

Owen's airplane quilt and some paintings for the kitchen

 Painting for the kitchen...
it needed some pops of color.
 Quilting for the airplane quilt
Nice straight lines to avoid breaking the pattern
And my first sew-in label! Imperfect embroidery, but at least it is labeled!
The rear view
Can't wait to get it bound and sent off!

WIP Wednesday- after an absence, quilty and non-sewing stuff

First off, went to a great meet and greet with Denyse Schmidt last Friday hosted by Bolt and Modern Domestic and walked away with this lovely bundle of Hope Valley- including a sewing card for time on MD's Berninas. Woo hoo!
Did some painting yesterday with my son- inspired by a painting seen at The New Domestic.
(Even painted the sides to be cool.)
Made this quilt top (in the last 2 days) for my sister-in-law, having a baby next month. Got the idea and paper airplane template (enlarged here) from Michael Miller's blog, Making it Fun. It is made from the Sugar Creek line from Denyse Schmidt for Joann's.
The reverse of my son's quilt. I pieced the letters and then used a Kona charcoal with yardage left over from Curious Nature.
An official picture of the Curious Nature Hexies quilt- with my son's first cameo. He loves this quilt! It is all basted but maybe not finally done- hoping to start quilting this weekend.
My final non-sewing project of the last 2 weeks- painted the top and sides of an unfinished dresser for my son's new room. Matches his bookcase!
